Lera is the family's third and youngest child. Parents were happy to learn they were having a girl after two boys. The pregnancy progressed normally. Test results were good, as were the screenings and ultrasounds. There was no threat of miscarriage—nor were there any indications for hospitalization to preserve the pregnancy. She was born at 40 weeks. The delivery was difficult and prolonged, with premature rupture of membranes. The labor lasted 16 hours. However, when the baby was born, the doctors said everything was fine and that she was healthy. A check-up at one month also revealed no abnormalities. It wasn’t until she was 5–6 months old that her family began to notice that their daughter was lagging behind in motor development. Ultimately, when Lera turned one, she was diagnosed at St. Olga Hospital in St. Petersburg with cerebral palsy—spastic diplegia (Level 3).

We are thankful to everyone who has helped Lera take another step toward a happy and healthy life! If you would like to help children with cerebral palsy, please visit our Foundation’s website.
