Until week 26, Ivan Minchenkov's mother's pregnancy went smoothly. But due to the risk of miscarriage, she was admitted to the hospital, where Vanya was born at week 29, measuring 36 cm and weighing 1,300 g, with an Apgar score of 4 at birth. The boy's mother then spent 14 sleepless nights worrying about her son's life, who was on a ventilator in intensive care at the time. The doctors immediately warned the parents that Vanya's condition would only worsen and suggested that they give up the child. However, the parents decided to fight for Ivan's health. At the hospital, where the mother and Vanya were admitted for examination after being discharged from the maternity hospital, the doctors also made it clear that the child was seriously ill and that it would be better to accept this and not waste their health and money on him. But the family did not give up and continued to fight the terrible diagnoses. Their constant care and tireless work bore fruit. Despite his generally serious condition, Ivan can now roll over onto his side, hold his head up more confidently, and pronounce individual sounds. After multiple courses of rehabilitation, he has learned to say “give,” “yes,” and “need.” He has begun to consciously understand at a basic level what it means to eat, sleep, walk, bathe, and much more. Nowadays, Ivan's parents' main goal is to continue working with their son so that he can communicate to adults what he would like or what is bothering him. Doctors, who did not believe that the child would ever be able to move or make any sounds, are quite surprised by Ivan's progress. But there is still a lot of work to be done, and a lot of effort and money is needed for new rehabilitation courses. And here, Vanya's parents really need the help of all caring people.
